Sivamani Paramesh takes over as new Director General of Coast Guard

Sivamani Paramesh on Tuesday took over as the 26th director general of the Coast Guard, a day after his appointment by the Narendra Modi-led central government.
Paramesh was given the additional charge of Director General Coast Guard in August 2024, after the death of his predecessor, Rakesh Pal, due to cardiac arrest.
According to the Defence Ministry, during his period, many significant operations and exercises were accomplished, including the seizure of drugs or narcotic substances and gold worth crores of rupees, rescue of mariners during severe cyclonic storms, joint exercises with the foreign coast guards, anti-poaching operations, humanitarian assistance during cyclones and naturals calamities and coastal security exercises..
In his military career of over 30 years, Parmesh served the Coast Guard in various organisational capacities, both ashore and afloat appointments.
An alumnus of the National Defence College and Defence Services Staff College, Parmesh specialises in navigation and direction.
He has also commanded major vessels of the Coast Guard, which include the advanced offshore patrol vessel Samar and the offshore patrol vessel Vishwast.
Earlier, Parmesh also served as Deputy Director General (Operations and Coastal Security), Principal Director (Operations) at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi and Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (East) in Chennai.

The Flag Officer was conferred with the Tatrakshak Medal in 2014 and the President Tatrakshak Medal in 2019 for his illustrious service. He was also awarded the DG Coast Guard Commendation in 2012 and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Commendation in 2009.
